Baroness Caroline Cox, member of the House of Lords, founder of HART, was the keynote speaker at a luncheon at The Met, Ottawa. Her talk was entitled "The Pain and the Passion of Making a Differnce." This was the launch of a new ARDFC project in Cameroon to build a health clinic, with the potential to benefit thousands in that distressed country. Global Day of Prayer - Parliament Hill, 10:30 am - 12:30
This ecumenical event was ignored by mainline churches including the Anglican Churches. It was well supported by Filipino
Jesus is Lord churches from Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. African Churches, particularly Tabernacle of Prayer and Transforming Life Centre were much in evidence both on the Parliament steps, and in the crowd. This was the 8th year that your webmaster had an executive role on the organizing committee, but his personal magnetism proved insufficient once again, drawing just 2 ANiCs in addition to himself. Are Bible translations trustworthy?
Ottawa Theological College presented a public lecture in Laframboise Hall, St Paul University, by David Lyle Jeffrey, entitled, "Readability or Reliability: Are Bible translations trustworthy? Dr. Jeffrey was introduced by the college principal Canon George Sinclair, who gave us its vision and progress to-date. David Jeffrey opened our eyes to the defficiencies in many recent Bible translations in their tendency to reflect cultural trends. He explained why so much of the Bible was poetry - but has not remained so in some translations. His favourites would seem to be: KJV, RSV, ESV, Old NIV for NT.

A Time to Build the Kingdom of God
The Ven. Ron Corcoron brought us his vision, as he tours the country, to see a financially strong ANiC, with the resources to support our mission bishops, bring candidates for ordination, support staff and travel, and continue to build faith communities. It was inspiring, from his unpacking Hebrews Melchizedek teaching to his own moving conversion to the faith. The sharp end is the launch of the A Time to Build campaign, where ANiC members are asked to give $20 per month for 20 months to meet a $1M goal.

5 February 2013

Celebration of the launch of a new ANiC ministry of reconciliation, faith and healing. Held at St. Peter & St. Paul's, though this is not an initiative of theirs, but independent.

The original idea for Living Water, Healing Streams came to Liba Straznicky (shown preaching, above) when she was at a Billy Graham event. Now ordained, she, together with Revs David Crawley, Archie Hunter and Desiree Stedman, and Marcia McLelland, have fashioned the brand new venture as a centre of

holistic repentance and Christ-centred healing. ANiC churches seeking resource in these fields may enlist the help of LWHS where they lack the experience or capacity themselves. The legal structure and registered charitable status have been transferred from the AGO. Tonight's well attended event took the form of a communion service but stopped short of offering specific healing prayer (otherwise it probably would have gone on until 8 the next morning, as Archie quipped).

The Annual General Meeting of the AGO
The AGM was held at Blackburn Hamlet Community Church, 2598 Innes Road, Ottawa, starting at 7:00 pm.

Report from the 2012 AGM of the AGO
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Tonight marked the completion of the work originally planned for the AGO by its founders. This was a time for appreciation, recognition and grateful thanks to God for the work done. Therefore, a motion was proposed and carried unanimously to replace the board of directors. The new board is Deacon Liba Straznicky, Rev. Archie Hunter and Rev. Desiree Stedman. Liba made a presentation of her future ministry which she had requested could take over the existing non-profit charitable status of the AGO, but with modified objectives, and a new name – as yet unchosen. The new Board will be responsible for these changes. The new ministry will offer services to ANiC churches which are experiencing growth and need additional temporary resources. Setting up a healing ministry is a an example of what could be provided, as Liba has done recently at Faith Anglican. The AGO will continue, but not as a corporation, and there is interest in regular meetings of clergy and lay leaders as has been done in the past to provide fellowship and mutual support. The AGO website, and AGO Fellowship Call will continue as before.

The AGM was held at Blackburn Hamlet Community Church, 2598 Innes Road. We again encouraged attendance not only by delegates from the local ANiC projects whose tax receipts are generated through the AGO, but also by all local ANiC people in fellowship with each other.
Particular thanks are due to Laurie-Ann Copple and Liba Straznicky for time and effort producing the 2010 financial report. In these times of changing from GST to HST and ensuring that GST (and all other aspects) are properly accounted for, this is no mean feat. Many thanks were conveyed to Marjorie Jennings for all her work in publishing AGO Fellowship Call. She voiced her concern that it may not be circulating to parishioners in all the ANiC churches. 10 Sept 2010
Ottawa Mediation process began
On Friday 10 September representatives of St. George's and St. Alban's entered into mediation with the Diocese of Ottawa. It was a long and exhausting day and it ended with an agreement that we will meet again on Thursday 16 Sept at 3:30pm. Some progress was made, but no conclusion was reached. We ask that you continue in constant hopeful prayer. Ask the Lord to turn hearts and minds. Ask the Lord to grant creativity and wisdom to our two parishes as we seek to discern God's will and seek His glory. Ask Him to guide us so that we know what to agree to and what to stand firm on. Thank you for praying. It is an honour to stand together in proclaiming and defending the Gospel. It is an honour to share together in the God given mission to make world changing disciples and help ordinary people be confident joyful disciples of Jesus Christ. We trust that God in His kindly providence will continue to care for our needs. To God alone be the glory.

At a glorious ceremony at the church of St. Alban the Martyr, Bishop Donald Harvey, Moderator of the Anglican Network in Canada, presided over the Ordination to the Diaconate of Karen E. Bergenstein. Well over 200 worshippers and wellwishers, including The Venerable Charlie Masters were witnesses to the historic event. In a message the next day Karen said, "The Holy Spirit was mightily present last night. I couldn't have wished for anything more. God has been so good to me!"   Deacon Karen Bergenstein accepted the supremacy of Jesus in her life 8 1/2 years ago on an Alpha course, and has been following the long and bumpy road to ordination for several years now. She joins a small band of local priests including newly appointed Archdeacon Désirée Stedman, who preached at the ordination, who serve under the Anglican Network in Canada.   See more pictures

An Anglican Network public meeting at 7:30 pm, Sunday 28 October

Ottawa Citizen report, by Alanna Toulin, 29 October 07.

    Ottawa CrossTalk report

The Anglican Network in Ottawa (ANiO) hosted a meeting organized by local lay leadership to discuss the implications to biblically faithful Anglicans of the recent Synod vote. Though the final decision rests with the Bishop, this meeting was necessary in view of the clear wishes of the majority at Synod. More than 70 people came to the meeting, including reporters from the Ottawa Citizen, and Crosstalk. Tony Copple outlined the nature of the problem we are in. Karen Bergenstein gave us hope for the future with a portrait of the way we expect things to unfold over the next few weeks and months. Many took the opportunity for questions and sharing of concerns.

Options under consideration include church planting to provide a local communion where refugees from liberal congregations would feel comfortable again. Brian Devisser shared his vision of what such a church might look like.

A weekly service ran at Bethesda every Wednesday in August from 7:20 pm - 8:30.
This was lay-led, by Dave Kemp, with assistance from Tony & Laurie-Ann Copple.
We offered an addition to your Sunday worship in the peaceful surroundings of Bethesda.
The service was intended to minister primarily (but not only) to those who no longer feel comfortable in their own parish and wanted to spend time with likeminded folk in worship, prayer and teaching. The format was based on evening service, sometimes a short sermon, a time for open questions and discussion, and group prayer. Sample Tony's talk from 22 Aug.

Booth duty was enjoyed during synod breaks by Desiree Stedman, Tony Copple, Del Garnett, Patricia Birkett and Norm Henderson. Jane Manary also deserves much credit for applying for the booth and providing some excellent collateral, and Cheryl Chang was able to send us the new invitation to join the Network in time for the booth and even before it was published on the AEC site.
